Team Ministry

From our bases in Puerto Escondido and Saltillo there are numerous opportunities for ministry. Your group’s schedule will be based on the information that you relay to us. Depending on your capabilities and desires you may be scheduled to teach in churches, evangelize, minister in mountain villages, evangelize children, work on a construction project, etc. We can schedule numerous types of ministry opportunities given sufficient advanced notice to plan with local pastors.

Many groups arrive with prepared dramas or other evangelistic tools so that they are prepared to start ministry their first day. It is important that we know your capabilities so that your group’s potential is not lost.
In the city the ministry needs vary widely from in depth teaching to basic evangelistic messages. There are both established churches and missions from newer impoverished areas of town. There are opportunities for open street evangelism in housing areas and the busy markets and parks.

In the mountains you will arrive at villages from 80 to 1,000 people. One of our guides will take your group through scenic areas to your final destination where you will minister to their needs and depending on the village, material needs such as food, clothing, blankets, etc. might be distributed. Many of these small communities are very open to the gospel. You may note that there are vast differences in landscape, temperature and culture between Saltillo and Puerto.
Come expecting God to work through you and in you!

  What We Need From You

To make your itinerary, we will need the following information:

  1. Date and time of arrival and departure.
  2. Type of ministry that the group will be capable of.
  3. For Saltillo groups, if the group desires to spend one or several nights in the mountains, or if the group would like to go and come back the same day. For youth, bringing sleeping bags and spending some of their time in the mountains is an excellent experience. In Puerto, day trips are taken to the villages and spending the night is usually for a more experienced team.
  4. Number of interpreters that the group will bring with them so we can plan accordingly.
  5. If the group is large, the numbers of concurrent services your group could minister in. This is determined by the number of qualified teachers or ministries you have with you and whether you desire to split the group during ministry.
  6. If a work project is desired, any skills and finances that could be put to use.
  7. Mode of transportation. What type of vehicle(s) you will be driving or flight times.
  8. Number of people in group and characteristics. (youth, couples, students, etc.)
  9. Goals of your leadership in the ministry to Mexicans and what you want to accomplish in your team.

Driving instructions to Saltillo

Here are the instructions to get to Saltillo from Laredo.

  • After crossing the bridge into Mexico you must first get your vehicle and personal documents. In Nuevo Laredo, follow the blue signs carefully to get to the immigration and vehicle permit offices. In Columbia, the offices are at the bridge. From either entry point, you should then follow the signs to Monterrey.
  • From there you will get on Highway 85 to Monterrey. After leaving town you will get to the second checkpoint where they will check all of your documents. Continue on this road until it splits into 85 libre and 85 Cuota.
  • Cuota means toll road. Take it. This will be about 170 pesos. At about 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the border the free road and the toll road will merge again.
  • After 125 miles from the border and the two highways merge, continue south past a small plane airport on your right.
  • A few kilometers later there will be two exits to the right for Saltillo. The first one is Cuota. Take it. This will be another 90 pesos and will take you around Monterrey.
  • About 35 km (22 miles) later this will merge with highway 40 that takes you to Saltillo.
  • Follow 40 for 80 km (50 miles) until you reach Saltillo.
  • In Saltillo, follow all of the signs to Zacatecus until you get close to the compound.
  • There are several routes to get to the guesthouse. The easiest for those who do not know the way is to continue following the signs to Zacatecus until you turn left on Urdiñola. There is a Burger King and HEB grocery store on this corner.
  • After taking the left, go to the first light and take another left.
  • Follow road about a half mile through the stone arches.
  • After the arches, go one more block straight on Paseo de los Mirlos.
  • Turn left on Paseo de los Zorros. Go ¾ block to green gate on right side #314 – Ring the Bell. If nobody is there, go ½ block further to #716. (Carl and Marina’s house)
  • This could take 30 minutes from the time you enter Saltillo until you get to the house.
